short story: sorry I’m not sorry

longer story: wow the subtle condescension towards female fans “UGH GIRLS WHO LIKE THINGS WITHOUT FILLING THE REQUIREMENTS TO LIKE THOSE THINGS”, that never gets old

I have never actually seen someone who seriously thinks that all of those Loki villainy things are okay. And furhtermore, of course Loki has sympathetic slash empathetic fans, because even though he does some fucked up shit (no but for real the eye thing jfc) his premise is a sympathetic one.

Let’s see: Son that has always felt overshadowed by the favored “golden child.” Has abilities and characteristics that are not appreciated in the society he was born into. (In this case, his way with words and magic versus the brute strength and valor that is revered in Asgard, particularly Thor.) Not ONLY does he later find out about the truth of his nature that is literally hated slash feared by everyone around him, but he finds out he was manipulated from near birth by his family to hide said nature. He lashes out with dashes of underlying, poorly disguised self-hatred as a result. 

THAT DOESN’T SOUND LIKE ANYTHING THAT COULD EVER RESONATE WITH ANYONE EVER.

I mean on a less extreme level but y’all get me

YES Loki is fucked up. YES he does horrible shit. But there’s such a sense of the uncanny with his story for some people, that there is no way that some people couldn’t be sympathetic to it.

Coupled by the fact that death and killing (with both heroes AND villains) is a bit more glossed over and treated with less gravity in the genre he exists in, which is problematic but I’m preeeetty sure most people can separate the two, and those that couldn’t were going to fuck something up along the way anyway with some other outlet of media to blame
